I use Yahoo mail and had my Mail program on my MBP set up for POP3. It kept asking for my password and then telling me it was incorrect. I had been having problems with Mail in OS X 10.11, El Capitan. I cannot create a new POP mailbox anymore! In some situations, you may find the port number or mail server address has changed once the new settings have been detected from the mail server, and the problem will resolve itself accordingly.
