If my dog is digging holes around the fence I can go to home depot or lowes and load the trunk of my car with paver stones and take them home myself to put around the fence. If an emergency happens with one of the kids I can just get and go get them. I can load my car with more than just a couple bags of groceries and not have to worry about grocery shopping for a month. I don't need to look at any train or bus schedules, I can can just get up and go from point A to point B. By foot it would take me and hour and a half to get to my job, twenty minutes to go to the grocery store and a couple hours or more to go to the other side of town.By bicycle about half that time or more to account for hills ,stop signs, and traffic lights. With a car I get to my job in 10 to 12 minutes, go to a grocery store in two to five minutes and it takes me around ten minutes to go to the other side of town. Saying they aren't is talk by pussies afraid of drivings teenagers with no jobs dummies to stupid to get a license and people who never had cars. Huston has over twice the land New York City does but slightly less than a quarter of New York city's population.ģ.Cars are more convenient than public transportation if you don't live in a jam packed city like New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles. But Chicago has over six and half times the population. Chicago and Tulsa square mileage wise are almost the same size. So it makes sense they would have more efficient public transportation and why public transportation makes sense. Money for that shit comes from the cities.Ģ.Densely populated cities have a lot less room to work with than cities not so densely populated. Its why big cities in the US have subways and other shit while lesser populated towns don't. Public transportation costs lots of money. (Although it was still more convenient to drive.) It didn't have the excitement of the big city, but was a healthier environment.ĭo you live in the US? If so, I'm surprised you didn't realize that there are suburban social venues other than malls.Įven if you're in a large city, you still have to rely on vehicles much of the time, especially if your job is further away.ġ. You could walk wherever since the town was small. (Just like Hinamizawa and Okinomiya from Higurashi.) Most people in my hometown seemed to know each other. Across the mountains, there was a more urban town. I grew up in a small town in a mountain valley with under 2,000 people. There's more crime, pollution, more oppressive laws, far more expensive real estate, less community connection (most people don't know each other) and so on. Personally, I think big cities are terrible. So what do you want.for the entire country to be urban? And other than the god awful strip malls there is nothing social. In the typical american suburb its just rows and rows of houses and then there are the god awful strip malls at the edge where have to drive to if you want to get anything. Not to mention all the people that die from car accidents every year, how dogshit cars are for the environment, and all the money spent on gas and repairs.Īpply yourself. That is thirty minutes flushed right down the toilet. If you are driving you have to pay attention to the road. You can take your work with you, answer emails, read, nap if you didn't get enough sleep, etc. Why? On the train you can do anything you want. You are saving more time by taking the train. Say you can commute by train for an hour to work or you can drive for 30 minutes. Why is America designed like this?Įdit: Also I want to emphasize just how much cars suck and how big of a waste of time it is to have to drive since there is a huge misconception that cars save time. They are basically designed to cut off human connection and encourage isolation. It's just plain depressing, desolate, lonely, and boring. Why is everything so spread out to the point that it's not practical to walk anywhere and why is good public transportation non-existent in most places? The rural and suburban areas are basically hellscapes if you want to do anything social, if you want culture, if you want to go to cool places, etc. Other than the large cities of America (which are expensive to live in for most people) the entire country is unwalkable and car dependent (cars are also very expensive and are death machines and bad for the environment.
